the reason people think it devolved is just because less people get into fight wars where they for strike for strike

they clinch more now then they did before, which makes it seem low skill but clinches are more effective even if they are less entertaining to watch

clinching has always been a part of boxing, go watch any Jack Johnson fight, or fight from any decade in the last 100 years with the exception of rare fights where styles just mesh. Its low skill because there is less combination punching,, less knockouts, and less rounds.

"less combination punching, knockouts" fighters take less risk now because it extends the fight and has less risk for them aswell

they are more skilled with modern training, but they are less entertaining and take less risk
