That's because your IQ is standardized by age group

So a 20 year old taking the test is compared to other 20 year olds

While a 50 year old is compared to over 50 year olds

Given it is a "percentile", this method is inherently flawed

When accounted for, people lose like 9 points by the age of 50

You are smarter at 20 then at 50. Actually according to studies I think you actually have the peak raw cognitive ability around the age of 17-20 and then it gradually decreases over time although crystallized intelligence increases basically until you die.
