Taking melatonin (and other supplements) destroyed my sleep

A few days ago I started taking: 3mg of melatonin, 1000mg of aschwagandha and 2000mg of GABA one hour before sleep. Every night (4nights) after taking this stack I wake up 3-4 times, and have extreme sweatiness (so much I change sheets twice a night and cover myself in towels). In addition I feel tired all day and my alarm doesn’t wake me up.

I also take other medications and peptides, but those I’ve been taking for a long time without these side effects. They begun only when I started with this stack.

Any idea on why this might be happening? Should I stop? Take smaller dosages?

Stop obviously something's fucking with your nervous system

Also those doses combined sound pretty damn high

It's something you're taking. You could stop everything and slowly reintroduce it, or remove one thing at a time.

I found melatonin helped my sleep at first but then I started waking up in the middle of the night more frequently. I only take it once a week now, even thinking of getting rid of that.

GABA I hear is pointless to take. Ashwaganda can be harmful.

I'd stop all three of those things. I would also remove any medication, supplement, peptide or drug taken at night time unless medically necessary.

Also dramatically cut down on caffeine. Stop eating 3-4+ hours before going to bed.

Sleep is very important.

Ashwagandha in pill or powder form? 1000mg is a lot

You have to cycle ashwagandha or it will destroy your thyroid.

Thank you. Why is GABA pointless, I read here it helps with growth and recovery and better sleep

Your body produces like around 0.1 mg of melatonin itself, so 3mg is like 30x, so it's expected. Lower the frequency and use only when needed, also split the dose by breaking the pill in half, I do the same.

No normal one the most basic

GABA agonists are sedatives and have no effect on the sleep centre. They "sleep" they induce is weak with low glymphatic activity and makes you feel like shit when you wake up

GABA itself doesn't cross the blood brain barrier very effectively. It might have a mild beneficial effect on sleep. If I were you I'd still stop taking it for a while, then test it out by itself to see if it helps.

I would 100% drop the melatonin and ashwaganda.

By doing the other things I mentioned you would get a better sleep effect without relying on exogenous chemicals.

The most likely impact on sleep for you would be too much caffeine, and eating too close to sleep. Have maximum 1 or 2 coffees right after waking up. Don't drink any more caffeinated drinks after 11am. These days I just do 1 really strong coffee with breakfast and that is all.

I also wonder do you take any medications or peptides at night? I found a lot of these medications I was taking at night for longevity purposes were actually fucking my sleep up majorly and cutting them out I sleep really well now.

Yeah I will cut it out and see which one is causing this and lower the dosage. I don’t drink any caffeine at all, so that doesn’t affect my sleep. I don’t take anything other than mentioned before sleep. I take IR aderall in the morning or noon when I have to do something (don’t take on weekends), ghkcu and tesamorelin

Adderall might be the cause. Hopefully not. Keeping it to morning would help limit its effect but for now you can play around with all of the other suggestions and hopefully fix your sleep. Good luck.
