PREREAD:
WHAT IS IT EVEN?
The hyoid bone is a bone positioned on the front of your neck, between your chin and the thyroid cartilage as seen in this image:
(random info: it is the only bone in the human body that is NOT connected to any other bones^(Wikipedia))
(The bone primarily aids in swallowing, speaking and breathing)

Now I have recently read and seen a lot of people talk about it on this forum and especially also on TikTok and other social media platforms with a lot of people suddenly talking about how important it is to "train it"

Now, to clarify, you cant train the hyoid bone itself, since yknow... it is a bone and not a muscle, but that does not mean that you can improve the position (or function ig?) of the bone through the muscles surrounding the bone.

so I read and skimmed through some scientific articles and read a bunch on how certain exercises improved BOTH the motor function of the bone (e.g the previously mentioned swallowing and breathing..) AND the resting position of the bone.
Such as this study:
(source: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5784581/)
The exercise the paper is referring to is "High-speed jaw opening exercise in training suprahyoid fast-twitch muscle fibers" those being the previously mentioned muscles connected to the hyoid bone. (conducted on elderly population)
As seen in the highlighted parts of the text the results showed how the exercise ALSO improved the vertical position of the bone. which would improve the cervicomental angle (angle between jawline and neck)

age demographic
also as previously mentioned this study primarily focused on the motor function and not anything really relating to any cosmetic stuff which is why the study was primarily conducted on older people with the focus on swallowing etc. BUT, whose to say that this shouldn't work on younger people? Then again, I am not really knowledgeable on this topic and could primarily only find studies that were focused on function rather than anything cosmetic, AND only for an older age group rather than anything on from a more young demographic.
So, if anyone of you know stuff about this please give insight
