Today i will explain why having a tall ramus is caused by a downgrown maxilla.

IMG 2518

I havent seen people talk about this, but its pretty important and interesting.

IMG 2519

When the maxilla grows downward the mandible also has to grow downward

IMG 2520

This can cause an open bite and high frankfurt mandibular plane angle, which causes a weak bite and bad facial aestethics.
IMG 2521

When this happens a ramus has to grow to make the bite strong and healthy, which will also result in a lower mandibular plane angle. This will only happen when the person has high testosteron, good diet and good habits during the periode of mandible growth.

Dolph lundgren has a very big ramus, causing his face to NOT have the classic downgrown look. But his maxilla is pretty downgrown.
IMG 2523

Look what happens if we remove the ramus:

IMG 2525

He now looks very dowgrown.

I can show you many examples

This guy his ramus grew good, but not enough to compensate for his downgrown maxilla. But still, he doesnt look extremely “downgrown”, only a little bit. but look what happens if we remove the entire ramus.

IMG 2526
IMG 2528

He now has a classic downgrown face.

Again, i can show you many examples

IMG 2543

People with very forward grown maxillas dont need a ramus for a low mandibular plane angle and good bite, thats why you almost never see very forward grown people with a tall ramus.

There would be no reason for their cranium to develop a ramus since the bite is most likely already correct, growing a ramus could even result in a deep bite when the maxilla is forward grown and not downgrown. so it would even be considerd unideal.

IMG 2548

IMG 2550

I can show you a lot more examples, but i think its clear what i mean.

In short: A ramus is basically a way for the mandible to compensate for a downgrown maxilla. The ramus grows to correct the bite, it makes the bite stronger and will also lower the mandibular plane angle causing better facial aestethics. When the maxilla isnt downgrown their is no need for a (tall) ramus, since the bite i likely already correct.

I hope you leaned something from my thread😊

1776302420041

Dolph lundgren doesn't have the best forward growth, but his "downgrown" maxilla is different because it is caused by his dimorphism. His maxilla and mandible are not pulled down, rather they have actually grown down.

1776302420041

It's an obvious difference here. On the right the dude's mandible curves downward because it is pulled downward. Dolph lundgren's mandible instead is grown downward, it is physically tall in height. (same with maxilla, this is why you see people like damian kater and jon erik hexum have that specific philtrum look)

I see people with good forward growth and low fma’s just like drago or barret getting criticized for having a “short ramus”

This is really something that should be taken into account when rating someone.

his maxilla is pretty normal sized imo he doesnt have a bunch of bone mass to start with

i should have specified btw properly downgrown maxilla is kinda a weird term since they are intuitively pretty contradictary, but what i meant is dolph lundren has a physically tall and big maxilla, therefore the bottom edge of the maxilla will be lower, which is different from somebody who's maxilla just gets pulled down and isn't tall, but is still low.

Incredible analogy. I agree with you, although i think the importance of being fully forward grown is a bit overvalued. Most humans are downward grown, at least by a little. You should look into surgery correlations and how one could benifit from a surgical movement depending on their facial features.

I agree, Downward growth is healthy. Normal growth involves the mandible moving downward and forward, which allows for proper tooth alignment, speech, and airway space. Having no downward growth will bring problems with it.

When the maxilla isnt downgrown their is no need for a (tall) ramus, since the bite i likely already correct.

Ramus is still extremely important for facial aesthetics. Just a reminder Robert Pattinson is the ONLY batman actor to not have his jaw covered up.

I hope you leaned something from my thread😊

very good thread

Today i will explain why having a tall ramus is caused by a downgrown maxilla.

I havent seen people talk about this, but its pretty important and interesting.

View attachment 4917818

When the maxilla grows downward the mandible also has to grow downward

View attachment 4917822

This can cause an open bite and high frankfurt mandibular plane angle, which causes a weak bite and bad facial aestethics.
View attachment 4917824

When this happens a ramus has to grow to make the bite strong and healthy, which will also result in a lower mandibular plane angle. This will only happen when the person has high testosteron, good diet and good habits during the periode of mandible growth.

Dolph lundgren has a very big ramus, causing his face to NOT have the classic downgrown look. But his maxilla is pretty downgrown.

Look what happens if we remove the ramus:

View attachment 4917850

He now looks very dowgrown.

I can show you many examples

This guy his ramus grew good, but not enough to compensate for his downgrown maxilla. But still, he doesnt look extremely “downgrown”, only a little bit. but look what happens if we remove the entire ramus.

sorry, I'm grey and from Russia. Could you please tell me if I move the Maxilla forward and up, could my ramus become visually shorter at 16 years old?

europeans are supposed to be somewhat flat and long faced, people blame modern diets and dentistry but old statues, portraits and other depictions of people look mostly the same facially as they do today.

'forward growth' is mostly a meme based on angle frauded pictures that aren't in frankfurt plane.

Maxilla’s upward and forward growth show development on a cellular level, its anything but a meme. Anteface is law, and in most cases only achievable if your ancestors where rich and/or of nobel descent eating the highest quality fresh raw livers while all the poor peasants where chewing on grains and slop, + on top of that you need proper envirment during childhood with a lot of breatfeeding. Development is law, and will always be law. projected infras + anteface in motion look unreal. Attractiveness is all subconsious based on development, and will always be

Do you mean having big ramus can make downgrows maxilla looks not that bad ?

A big ramus will make a downgrown maxilla look better since your FMA will be lower indicating healthier and stronger bite

the only surviving portraits and statues are of rich people and virtually all of them look the same as people that eat slop today.

they ate so much meat it gave them gout and still looked like this.

If I move the maxilla forward and up , my ramus can become visually smaller.
