The study also says that taurine significantly increased lifespan and should be effective against androgenic allopecia as well. Oh, and taurine was more effective than finasteride. Not bad for a humble amino acid

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23392889

"... Although astressin-B and finasteride are two prominent drugs to treat alopecia, the data in this study suggest that taurine may work better than the two anti-alopecia agents against hair loss caused particularly by stresses. These results strongly implicate that taurine might alleviate the chemical stress to help hair root cells to sustain their integrity. "

"... Considering hair loss causes adolescent to suffer devastating emotional stress, the significance of safe, effective anti-alopecia agent cannot be overstated. Development of screening systems for anti-alopecia agents is very important. This study used C. elegans to evaluate astressin-B, finasteride, and taurine in terms of anti-stress potential. All of them helped with restoring the affected vital signs in C. elegans which was subjected to ER stress. Among the three agents, taurine exerts better results and may be used as an anti-alopecia agent especially against the one caused by stress."

The study obviously relates it back to humans

I think most energy drinks have 1 gram to 3 grams of taurine. Red bull has about 2 in a 16 oz can, and the monster 16 oz cans have 2 grams also

Oh?
"We showed that taurine was taken up by the connective tissue sheath, proximal outer root sheath and hair bulb, promoted hair survival in vitro and prevented TGF-beta1-induced deleterious effects on hair follicle."

And tgf-beta1 is giga important in causing hairloss
"Therefore, it can be inferred that the Testosterone-induced TGF- Beta 1 expression may induce perifollicular fibrosis the dermal fibroblasts, accelerate hair follicles into moving on catagen phase of hair cycle, and inhibits epithelial growth, which brings all together out miniaturization of hair follicles in AGA."

I wonder how much would be needed to make it equivalent to a finasteride dose

i know most people get like 100mg a day of taurine, its mostly in animal products (over for vegancels) so 2 grams would probably be more than enough for whatever the hair follicles need, although it may also be completely superfluous because if you get enough taurine the body may not allocate any more taurine to your hair follicles even if you take 10 grams a day. But then maybe it could be applied directly to the scalp and that would help. Either way it cant hurt I suppose

What matters is is that its used on hair prone to AGA. And its effects are on what seem to be like a systemic function rather than something that would be individual specific. Honestly doubt jew studies would want to lose on the billion dollar finasterine industry, so ill take what i can get

Yea. Kj mightve found something really cool by accident, ground breaking discoveries tend to happen by accident. Wouldnt hurt to try it, if someone is at nw0-1 and prone to hairloss hed be the ideal candidate for this. Anything more would be not worth trying due to how untested and unknown it is. Ik ill be trying this

not bad at all.

To add.

1. it tested STRESS related hair loss. So may not halp for dude that are chill maxxed but still lose hair due to genetics reasons
2. Can use both at same time. it's not OR - OR perse. It can be done AND - aND
3. it was not tested on human, but on worms

"taurine has a great potential as anti-alopecia effect especially against the one caused by the chemical stress. The present study implies that taurine might strongly work against hair loss when used in combination with other commercially available -anti-alopecia agents."

*****
How to taurine Maxx??
1. food. main sources of taurine are animal foods, such as meat, fish + dairy. An average diet provides about 40–400 mg of taurine per day, but studies have used 400–6,000 mg per day doze. most people will not consume enough to meet the doses used in the studies.
2. safty concern/side effects. As with most amino-acid-based supplements, issues could potentially arise in people with kidney problems
3. supplemet. most common dosages of taurine are 500–2,000 mg per day. However, the upper limit for toxicity is much higher — even doses above 2,000 mg seem to be well tolerated. The easiest and most cost-effective method to achieve this is through powder or tablet supplements, which can cost as little as $6 for 50 doses.
