The importance of teen love is exactly as you describe: It's where you learn your place in the social hierachy. It's not completely pure, although teenagers are less bitter/jaded about their failures and the position they hold so far. Thinking that it can still change.

If you miss out on teen love, because you had acne and were fat for example. Or it could be cuz of some other reason, your self-esteem is permanently damaged and doesn't allign with the later version of you. The amount of damage also depends on other social interactions you've had, how your parents treated you, etc.

It's why I will always rot here, despite having climbed the hierachy. No cure for having been KHHV at 23yo and the way my mind has adapted.
