So objectivity let's say is a consideration of facts independent of preconceived notions.

Impartiality is not taking a side.

You can upon reflection of some set of facts come to a partial judgement (that is strongly taking one side over the other)

I agree with both definitions.

What I meant by being impartial is not choosing a side (like you said), and by objectivity I meant looking at the facts (like you said).

But the entire point is that a side isn’t being taken even after the resulting judgment.

If someone commits a crime, you look at what they did, and then give them a fitting punishment afterwards. But you aren’t obligated to hate them even after the trial is over. And quite frankly, that is what is being expected of me, which I think is weird to expect.

That is also a problem, there is a certain dynamic. I cannot go out of my way to defend others, even if I personally liked them. I could and would certainly do that if I was a regular user, but I’m not. I’m a staff member. Sooner or later, higher-ups would tell me that I’m being biased and cannot do that. Which is true, and I completely agree with them. And users who are or were on good terms with staff members should understand that they can’t expect a staff member to do that for them. Nor am I expecting them to or asking them to stand up for me either. That is a personal choice. Do I appreciate it? Of course. But can I do the same? Not as a staff member. Maybe if I get demoted, then sure thing. But right now there is a dynamic and that makes things more complicated.
