Anyone considering using alpha-lipoic acid or any other thiol compound such as NAC or glutathione should always test for insulin autoantibodies first, especially Japanese and Koreans. I would speculate that some of the symptoms seen in other hospitalized ALA intoxication cases (especially non-diabetics) may be tied to undiagnosed IAD. I bet it's an extremely underdiagnosed condition.
