I was on the lookout for a graphing calculator for a recent test that I had to take. I looked it up on Amazon but was shocked at how expensive these graphing calculators were. This is TI-84 plus.
A calculator from 90s which is 3 generations old, but it still goes for over 100$ yes that much for a display worse than a Gameboy advance and processor 200-1000x slower than those ultra cheap 50$ chinese smartphones you can find on Alibaba
I then realized it was because of the buisness model they were able to charge this much for such junk. Texas Instruments basically has a monopoly over graphing calculators. TI is graphing calculators, there are alternatives that exist. Casio and HP make some yes but TI forced schools curriculums to use TI as a standard so if you buy anything else you are pretty much on your own. The handbook will be useless, the thousands of youtube videos explaining you how to use it, how to solve problems everything you have to learn on your own now, your professor also won't be able to help you out so ypu pretty much have to buy a TI
This is the reason why these calculators are so damn expensive. They are also a war profiteering company and in the shady businesses of military tech and discretely make missile guidance, radar systems which is why Texas Instruments has a market cap of $160.53 billion. And would you guess it.

Master stroke jews. I am impressed. This is what I call the decimation of competition
Also don't understand why can't we take our smartphones at these tests. Just remove the wireless connectivity. install a few apps and boom you have insanely powerful graphing calculator.

Israeli appointed CEO of US chip manufacturer Texas Instruments
Haviv Ilan, who joined the semiconductor manufacturer in 1999 after it bought out his Israeli startup, will replace longtime chief in April
