its a puberty indicator tho and puberty = growth plates

Facial hair isn't a good indicator whether your still growing or not, or if your close to it. Best way to tell whether their open or closed is an x-ray and if you haven't grew in months or barley anything then your basically done

Only reason why people think its directly correlated is because they usually happen at the same time.

Most guys get body hair later around when their plates fuse. But some get it earlier. Depends on genetics.

Anything else would be purely observational and slightly innacurate.
