Economy is make believe. As long as Americans are happy to be ultraconsumerist cattle they'll do alright. If you can sell loads of useless shit (newest iPhone, whatever trending cup or bullshit, etc.) and mountains of corn syrup infused goyslop it will keep the ship afloat. I'm not sure if they're capable of austerity as their society is very much based around spending their money and taking credit when they can't afford it. There's no other society where everything requires a 20% tip.
