Back when military service was compulsory in Romania, some young men would commit suicide. Then for a brief moment they started to go ER, then military service was abolished. In Russia where it's still practiced, more and more cases of soldiers going ER happen.

ahh not really. I can decide always to get an exemption from military (most likely to be my case) or to choose national service instead of the military enlistment (2nd option. especially a lot of religious women are seem to pick that). anyway, I do not intend to conscription any "major service" out here...
