Why you are not average and why "average" is a stupid term that means jack shit.

Context: I am a guy studying
psychology(real psychology not liberal bullshit) and I am currently writing a book explaining
why a bunch of concepts that are accepted by most people (or most people in a community) suck.

This is mostly pasted from my book documents with a bit
of editing + gpt formatting so some things might sound weird but thats it.

It will be divided in sections.

Have fun reading.

Okay, so now that we’ve started talking about numbers in relation to humans, let’s talk about the term I despise the most, whether it’s in statistics or anything else.

The term I’m talking about is the damned term: AVERAGE.

Now you might be thinking, why would someone hate the word “average”?

Because the median value of anything is always better for understanding it than the average value.

One of the places we can see this is in looks. In the last two years, I’ve seen a bunch of videos talking about how women don’t like the “average” man and often put him below average. However, this is a very stupid understanding of the term.

Let’s say we have 10 guys ranging from 1/10 to 10/10.

This is our sequence:

1/10 2/10 3/10 5/10 6/10 6/10 7/10 7/10 8/10 10/10

Now let’s use the arithmetic mean formula to calculate the average attractiveness.

Doing 1+2+3+5+6+6+7+7+8+10 gets us 55, and dividing that by 10 gives us 5.5.

That would mean the average value of attractiveness of our 10 dudes is 5.5/10.

However, that doesn’t provide us with any actual useful info, as most of them (60%) are at a 6/10 or higher.

We can also notice that 4 out of the dudes are what we call "extremes" — they are the guys who are 1/10, 2/10, 3/10, and 10/10.

Three of them are way uglier than the rest, and one is perfect — so he raises the average value too much.

Removing them, we get the values: 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8

Using the same arithmetic mean formula, we get:

5 + 6 + 6 + 7 + 7 + 8 = 39
39 ÷ 6 = 6.5

Which — if we look at the values and use our human brain — we realize is more accurate.

In our original sequence (1/10, 2/10, 3/10, 5/10, 6/10, 6/10, 7/10, 7/10, 8/10, 10/10), there are more people above 6 than not.

And as there are 4 people above 6, we can add the 0.5 as a sort of “margin of error.”

By asking AI to calculate the median, we get a 6 (which is closer to this value), and we add the 0.5 as a margin of error for the higher values.

Now how does this correlate to how women perceive the “average” man as unattractive?

Well, in our example, the mathematical average using the arithmetic mean formula is 5.5, whereas the “true” average is 6.5.

Since 5.5 is one full point lower than 6.5, women could dislike the mathematical average, while being okay with the “true” average based on actual distribution.

SECTION TWO: Real Average vs Perfect Average
Another thing we have to look at is how what we think of as “average” is often distorted by our world.

Let’s say we lived in a perfect world, where everyone was actively or semi-actively caring about getting to “peak” health — not obsessively, but just how much people should care about their health (making health a real priority).

This would mean people aim to reduce their body fat percentage to 20% or lower.

In this world, we wouldn’t have truly fat people.

In this world, the “average” guy would not be fat.

Now let’s go back to the real world.

By asking ChatGPT, we get that the average body fat percentage in the U.S. for men is 23–25%.

This is a huge difference from our imaginary healthy world, where people are aiming for 20% or less (and most would probably fall into the 18–20% category if we go by the same min-max difference as in the real world).

Now here’s the kicker.

The average dude out there is also fat (23–26% body fat) — and I’m not just talking about the U.S.

If we exclude:

People with low body fat due to starvation

Serious health-focused gym-goers (the people who eat clean, do cardio, and actively try to stay lean)

And if we include:

Powerlifters

People who have gym memberships but eat like shit

People who go to the gym but don’t train properly or don’t care about body fat

Guys who lift heavy and gain muscle but still look round due to high fat levels

Then yeah — the average dude is not in shape.

There’s also a bigger percentage of dudes who are skinny and not even decently fit than there are of guys who are actually fit.

So what do we get from this?
We get the fact that the reason most women don’t like the “average” dude is because the average dude doesn’t look good.

The average guy is either:

A bit fat

Very fat

Skinny (in a bad way)

Big and muscular, but still round and soft from eating too much and not caring about fat percentage

SECTION THREE: Conclusion
When it comes to looks, it’s not that women have too high of expectations from the average dude — it’s that the average dude looks like shit.

P.S.
You’ll see videos of women saying they want a man making $1 million a year, who’s 6’7”, and has at least an 8/10 face.

They’re usually cherry-picked.
Most of those women are being asked about their ideal man, not:
“What’s the absolute bare minimum of a man you would be into?”

Stop watching TikTok.

If you:

Get to 18–20% body fat (which is easy as fuck to achieve)

Spend a few hours researching basic fashion (not even good fashion, just popular)

Have a job that isn’t cleaning toilets part-time

Maintain decent hygiene (two showers/day + after workouts)

Get a cheap-ass cologne or good-smelling essential oil

Do the basics of grooming

You are very unlikely to not find at least one decent woman who likes you — unless you’re REALLY ugly from birth.
