True Levantines look very light and fair featured. Most Jews in Israel fled after living under Muslim terrorist rule as “dhimmis”. Nobody lived in 'ideal' times. In the past you either expanded on other or they expanded on you. Most of tHere 'occupied' arab lands had Arab governors, we didn't concern us with the language enforcement, nothing. The use these lands had was to form a deterrent. That's all.
