Your brain is a superweapon when it comes to survival and figuring out how to continue in dangerous situations.

So anyone that suicides really meant it and they were in a lot of pain

The idea of death isn't the same as the natural urge to survive, alot of people will have abstract notions of suffering or wanting to die and then regret it when imminent death actually kicks in for them biologically

They were in suffering but many suffer extreme delusions, chemical imbalance or have romantic notions of death, I think if the brain was able to always recognise death for what it was the dread would stop alot more people
