Purpose of this thread
I was going through my PDFs where I had stumbled across my old file. The file was named "We Are Creatures That Should Not Exist’: The Theory of Anti-Natalism". I had than reread that thingy and I had wanted to write about it and write about my thoughts and see you guys thoughts on it.
Quick and Dirty introduction to the Anti Natalism
Note just a heads up this is not a product of my own work but the work of David Benatar. He spends the beginning yapping about how he doesn't want Anti Natalism to be associated with Rust Cohle character. Nether the less he defines Anti Natalism as such
"Anti-natalism is the view that we ought to desist from procreating – that it is wrong to have children."
His defenses of his position
This part will be completely filled with quotes so I won't be commenting much, honestly I have no idea where I found this. I'll be picking what I find interesting.
"even if one thought that the best of human lives were good (enough), to procreate is to inflict, on the being you create, unacceptable risks of grotesque suffering, even if that occurs at the end of life. For example, 40% of men and 37% of women in Britain develop cancer at some point. Those are just terrible odds. To inflict them on another person by bringing him into existence is reckless"
Note this is his third argument he makes. He then goes on to talk about rust some more. I'll leave you with one more quote, it beats the hell out of me where I found this. That's not the quote btw.
"It is important to note that anti-natalism, while favouring human extinction, is a view about a particular means to extinction – namely non-procreation. Anti-natalists are not committed to either suicide or “speciecide" "
Ok thanks for reading I'm tired now goodbye
