The collapse of civilisation would go unoticed

The droughts in England have lwk has me realising that if conditions were to gradually worsen to the point where food and water become extremely limited it would only be noticed and true panic would only set in when it is already too late.
For months it hasn't rained and it still hasn't properly so you see entire fields of dead grass and quiet a few wildfires. But you just stand in you're garden watching smoke in the distance.
I find the world of the movie Interstellar is very realistic in that a very large majority of the population simply just dies and conditions worsen and worsen whilst people remain ignorant to it.

But lwk live in spite of the dystopian reality that is ever growing.
