Two boys in blue beneath the lights,
Two caps, two futures, two different nights.
The same four years, the same degree,
Yet college was not the same reality.
The tall one entered, shoulders wide,
With effortless presence on his side.
He didn’t chase attention—it came,
Girls learned his face before his name.
A smile from him could start a thread,
A party invite, a night well spent.
He could stumble, mumble, say the wrong thing,
And somehow still be the one they’d bring.
The smaller one watched from the side,
With thinner frame and nowhere to hide.
He’d dress up sharp, he’d try his best,
Yet every room still failed the test.
He saw the tall one getting replies,
While his own messages met silence and lies.
One asked a girl, “Want to go?”
The other wondered, “Should I even show?”
One had dates that blurred through the year,
Kisses, parties, someone always near.
The other had screenshots left unread,
And conversations dying in his head.
For one, rejection was just a door
There were always others, maybe more.
For him, each “no” began to feel
Like proof that something wasn’t real.
The tall one learned that girls could choose
Him for his looks, his height, his views.
The smaller one learned a colder art:
To hide how badly he wanted a start.
Same lecture halls, same college town,
One built his confidence up, one watched it drown.
One left with stories he’d proudly recall,
One left wondering if he’d lived at all.
And then they stood for graduation day,
In matching robes, just inches away.
For one brief photo, fate looked fair—
Two identical caps in identical air.
But when the ceremony reached its end,
The robes came off, the illusion did too.
One walked away with a world to attend;
The other walked home with the world to pursue.
Same college. Same years. Same academic game.
But one collected memories
the other collected shame.
