This isn't medical advice, and you should do your own research before partaking in any part of this guide. Risks and outcomes will be different for everyone!!

"What happened to your nose? Why does it look so much smaller?"
My mom asked me this a couple weeks ago, word for word, and a couple friends I saw over the summer asked something similar. You may not receive the same reactions if your nose isn't as inflamed as mine was. The results of this guide will depend on the severity of your allergies, mine happened to be severe.

Here is, (from what I've seen), one of the LEAST talked about softmaxxes on this forum, that is VERY likely to affect a LARGE percentage of you.

List Of Contents:

What Is Allergic Rhinitis & How Does It Affect Your Nose?
Medication & Potential Side Effects Of Medication
How To Properly & Safely Use Medication
My Personal Results

Allergic Rhinitis:
Allergies, a lot of us have them, but we're going to focus on the most common form, the one that affects your nose.

Allergic rhinitis/Hay fever, the most common form of allergy, is estimated to affect about 1 in 4 adults, and about HALF of children. Symptoms include frequent sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, and itchy, red, or watery eyes. It manifests through allergic responses to grass, weed, and tree pollen, dust mites, and animal dander.

Now, about 40-50% of people with Hay fever go their entire life without ever being diagnosed, essentially letting it unknowingly harm their looks, especially their nose, which is what I'm going to focus on in this guide.

About 70% of the other half that is aware of this condition affecting them, choose to do nothing about it.

Now you might, or might not be wondering how this affects your nose, which I'm about to explain.
It is important to note that Hay fever does not typically cause major, true swelling of the hard outer bone or cartilage of the nose. Instead, external puffiness or redness happens when internal nasal congestion and inflammation expand the blood vessels, trap fluid in nearby facial skin, and cause irritation from constant rubbing.

Medication & Side Effects:
Which Medications can help?

The most common and really the only ones you should use for targeting nasal swelling from Allergic Rhinitis fall into TWO categories.

Permanent:

Immunotherapy is a type of medical treatment that uses your body's own immune system to fight diseases like cancer, and in this scenario, Hay fever/Allergic Rhinitis. A complete course will typically take 3-5 years (Yes, I know, that's a looooooong time, but it's permanent).

Temporary:
The temporary route will involve consistent use of steroid nasal sprays, specifically Fluticasone Propionate or Beclomethasone Dipropionate. I personally use Beclomethasone Dipropionate. You might hear "steroid" and think there is a chance these nasal sprays may cause SWS (Steroid Withdrawal Syndrome), but unlike topical agents like hydrocortisone, steroid nasal sprays do not cause SWS because they target underlying inflammation rather than artificially constricting blood vessels.

How To Properly & Safely Use Medication:
I can't be bothered to explain this, and it's better to watch a video anyways, so I'll link one.

My Personal Results:
Now, do note, the quality of my before photo is dogshit since it's from my student ID and I used to be too insecure to take any photos. The after photo is also slightly tilted since I have to go off the photos I already have, since my phone literally broke last week jfl. The results are still evident though.

Both photos were taken using the back camera!***

Not sure why the gif keeps cropping but it'll have to do.

WELL, That's all! I hope this guide was of use to anyone, this is my first real guide so pls be nice lmao. I tried to format it as best as I could and took inspiration from @Sadist and his guide on hydrocortisone.

Just realized I forgot to mentions the side effects of the medications listed, but it's mostly just nosebleeds, local irritation and headaches, all of which can be avoided by simply applying the medication PROPERLY.

bump since this could legitimately help some people
