This is why I cannot stomach islam or western christianity. If I assume that god exists as in the abrahamic bible, (anthropomorphic, omniscient, omnipotent and personal) then I have to accept that he is completely and utterly insane. If god willed into existence the universe and he hates evil and his definition of evil is clearly an emergent product of the physical forces that make up the universe, then gods will is in opposition to himself and he is thus insane. Accepting the bible or quaran is literally accepting that the universe is the product of madman's feverish nightmare. I can't think of anything more disturbing. Islam is particularly bad but I think catholicism and the extremist cults that colonized america are almost worse. Orthodox christianity on the other hand takes a completely different approach that in my opinion is far more intellectually rigorous and thus tolerable.
