Only 1/3 of people with a membership actually go so the amount of gymgoers isn't as high as it actually seems.

probably even higher tbh
found info online that 60% people at the gym are 18-34, 16% are under 18 but I dont think I'll include them

just under half of people at gyms are men

lets take norway then;

(1,170,000 x 0.6) x 0.495 = 347,490 of gym goers are men aged 18-34

unfortunately I cant find an exact number for men this age in norway but based on info from online I will assume its 650,000 approx

(347,490 / 650,000) x 100 = 53.46%

more than half of zoomers and millenial men in Norway have a gym membership.

does age play a role here, are young people more likely to go or to get memberships and not use them?
I have no statistics to support this but my hypothesis is that the majority of people who buy and don't use a membership are individuals who are trying to lose weight but fail to. Like people who buy a membership for New Years' Resolution but never end up going.

Also to address the younger people thing, gym rat culture is obviously exploding all over YT and tiktok, so yes - young people who get memberships are more likely to go consistently.

obesity peaks between mid 30s - late 50s so these are probably the people that use the spare cash to get a membership for a gym at a new years discount and then never use it.
