This is my first proper thread so if i make any mistakes please let me know in replies, thank you.
this thread will be going over two incredibly significant factors which determine the way you look.
first of all we have averageness.
averageness summed up pretty much means, if you took 100 people from a certain ethnicity, (e.g Italian, Greek etc) certain gender, and certain age group, and gathered all their faces, and then took the mean (math term, meaning most common/average.) features, and created a face out of that, you would get a face with very high averageness, due to its culmination of average features.
here is an example of this:
but a further look into some examples of this are:
Greek people usually having darker hair and eyes, the same being said for middle eastern and med countries.
the opposite of this would be a country like Finland, with 58% percent of its population having lighter colouring (blonde hair, fairer skin, lighter coloured eyes etc.)
The science behind averageness and why we, as humans are drawn towards it,
though average features differ throughout areas of the world, the majority of the time the more average the face, the more appealing it appears to humans.
according to Wikipedia, there is a evolutionary reason for this, called koinophilia.
koinophilia is an evolutionary instance where animals will look for mates with more common and/or average features.
the reason being that uncommon/less average features could potentially have been a sign of a genetic mutation, which were unideal at the time.

even babies develop a preference to look at more average faces rather than uncommon looking faces, this is because they realise that the person they are looking at looks common and/or trustworthy, which is something we will get into later during this thread.
when anyone says that first impressions are based off of personality, they are wrong, both scientifically and socially.
this is due to the fact that our brain will give us an idea of whether a person looks average and whether they have a typical face, which is viewed as the standard, therefore making it easier for us to look at.
if you took person A, and person B, to a gathering, who would be considered the more "normal" or "standard" one, out of the two.

Trustworthy faces:
the reason why someone with softer, more average looking features would be considered more trustworthy is due many factors.
social wellbeing.
this seems outlandish for what is someones appearance, but i assure you it isnt.
someone who is more common looking/average looking, come off as less likely to disrupt the social chain, or much lower risk than someone who looks incredibly striking and/or unaverage.
this also draws into stereotypes, if you looked at the two people above, regardless of status, wealth, social hierarchy or personality, you would most likely feel more comfortable and trusting in face A, as it is associated with positive and unthreatening stereotypes, while face B is associated with more self-centered, narcissistic and threatening stereotypes.
hence why people with high averageness are deemed to be more trustworthy and unthreatening, and attractive.
beauty standards, and defying the need for averageness:
9/10 averageness is required for a face to be attractive, however some places dont have that requirement.
a beauty standard is the set bar for beauty in a certain area or region, era, or gender.
most of the time it still has a need for averageness, in places like Europe, north Africa or the Americas.
however in regions of Asia, south, east and west Africa, they defy this need.
an example of this are places like the Kayan tribe, Thailand.
a tribe in Thailand where the sole idea of beauty is having an abnormally long neck, which the local tribeswomen attempt to replicate by using rings.
I believe that less average faces are more interesting and complex, hence more fascinating to look at, which is why usually model agencies go after people with very unaverage, and interesting looking faces.
hence Jordan Barrett, Kate moss, Devon Aoki.
to most some of these people are great for modelling, but dont have much appeal in the masses in terms of attraction.
now onto facial harmony.
Facial harmony and why its crucial to someones looks:
facial harmony is essentially the foundation of how well someones features harmonize, or work well together.
the arrangement of the features, the proportions of the features, and if they are able to click with eachother. (metaphorically)
this is down to many factors, such as symmetry.
facial symmetry is how symmetrical a face is, an example of someone with alot of assymetry would be bradley cooper, with an assymetrical jaw and eyes.
another factor is ratios, which equate to proportions (sometimes mathematical) on the face.
for example, IPD, which stands for interpupillary distance, essentially the distance between your eyes.
the average is 63mm, however someone may have a shorter or longer distance, such as Jared Leto, who has a shorter distance, more close set.
Or, something that is commonly known as FWHR, (Facial Width-to Height Ratio.)
these are some of many factors that affect how well your face harmonise.
the majority is due to ratios on your face.
another psychological fact is that we are more drawn to faces with harmonious features, regardless of how soft or striking these features are, if they harmonise well, then its is likely you will find that face attractive.
a very common misconception is that someone like Barrett doesnt have harmony just because he has striking features.
this is completely false, Barretts features work well together, although he has a slight short-face syndrome, it doesnt deter hugely from his overall attractiveness.
he has a very striking face, and very uncommon features/low averageness. As mentioned before.
a very big cope i see on TikTok is that "muh Chico mog because of harmony".
overall, people will find faces that show more proportional and balanced features, or more average and common features more attractive, whether this is due to facial harmony or facial averageness.
