Joe Bovino wrote a book called Chica Spotting which purports to be a field guide to dating various types of Latinas in the US.
Each type of Latina has a profile which lists all of her stereotypical characteristics. Here are just three(there are more in the book) of the types (image only) included in the book:
What is your favorite type?I prefer la guittara and then taco belle.la guittara likes me most,as evidenced by my trips to Miami.Taco Belle doesn't that much.
The "Symmetrical Force" on the right is a name given to the Colombian American. In her profile she is described as superficial and high-maintenance (scoring 5/5 on both of these traits). She's hot but thinks that she's something special.
The "Taco Belle" or Mexican American, on the other hand, is described as not very superficial (1.5/5) and not very high-maintenance (2/5).
While such stereotypes should perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt, many reviewers of the book on Amazon, including some Latinas, say that the profiles in the book are eerily accurate.
According to the book, Colombian Americans are notoriously hard to get while Mexican Americans are easier and more down to earth
The book describes the Nuyorican as having an urban or ghetto-urban style, family-oriented but not particularly friendly to strangers, usually uneducated and sometimes aggressive.
Friendliness: 2/5
Neuroticism: 4.5/5
Nesting: 3.5/5
Maintenance: 2.5/5
Superficiality: 2/5
Promiscuity: 9/10
The book also talks about another type of Puerto Rican of the US - La Guitarra (aka Puerto Rican - South).
La Guitarra is found primarily in Florida. She is described as well-assimilated with other Latinos in Miami, Orlando and other US cities outside the Northeast, affable, gregarious, bright, usually smart, responsible and sympathetic. One noteworthy fact about this type of Boricua is that she rarely associates with her Nuyorican counterpart due to marked cultural differences between the two groups.
Friendliness: 4/5
Neuroticism: 2/5
Nesting: 5/5
Maintenance: 3/5
Superficiality: 2/5
Promiscuity: 5.5/10
