Ever wondered why traits that serve no biological advantage rather they are a disadvantage for a species yet are seemingly more attractive and preffered

take these 3 examples:
1) A peacock who has a long tail is a huge burden for it , it requires more cals he is not able to run faster and flying become more tough

2) tall height in humans serves no evolutionary advantage as opposed to what many believe it requires more calories , more stress on joints and heart yet no advantage for living

3) High-maned lions have higher body temperatures, struggle to cool down after sprinting, eat less food during hot months, and are forced to drink significantly more water just to stay alive.

This is the Handicap principle given by biologist Amotz Zahavi

Think of a peacock's train not as a genetic mistake, but as an incredibly expensive biological advertisement. The tail is heavy, ecologically costly to grow, reduces flight efficiency, and screams "here I am" to predators.

By successfully surviving despite carrying this massive hindrance, the peacock sends an honest, un-fakeable signal to peahens

I am so strong, healthy, and genetically superior that I can carry this ridiculous heavy train around and still outrun tigers

If a male peacock has poor genes, is riddled with parasites, or is malnourished, he physically cannot grow a vibrant, symmetrical, iridescent tail. The peahen isn't thinking about the tail's utility; she is using it as a proxy to judge his immune system, stamina, and genetic health. By mating with him, her offspring inherit those robust underlying survival genes.

exact same with humans tall height signals a handicap you need more cals more stress on joints yet you are able to live it signals look at me im genetically better that even with this handicap im able to thrive

fucking brutal this is the real blackpill muh attraction//////

You need 115+ iq to understand this

The claim that human height serves no real purpose comes across as rather redpill esque cope, but besides from that it was a interesting read

Good overthinking thread
