we were never supposed to become like this something in the machinery of natural selection spiraled too far too fast a runaway recursion a mutation in the cortex that created not a tool user but a mind that could simulate a thousand futures and be crushed beneath every one we learned to make fire but never learned to control what it would burn we also learned to speak but never learned to silence what we could not bear to hear we built memory into architecture and named it civilization but it was just the echo of trauma repeating in stone progress feels like decay we and intelligence fels like a trap a loop a spiral of abstraction that begins and ends in suffering other animals feel pain but they do not map it onto time they do not complain from it they do not build futures from fear we took instinct and stretched it until it broke and called the breaking self awareness we call ourselves conscious but what if consciousness is the symptom what if the orgnism was never meant to see itself from above what if evolution went too far down a path it cannot reverse what if all this is just the result of a simple adaptation gone mad pattern recognition that cannot stop itself even when the patterns are hallucinations, shadows in the data we keep finding faces in static meaning in noise gods in absence because to stop seeking patterns is to die
and we know we are dying we have known it since the first burial since the first word since the first mirror and we cannot go back we cannot forget we carry the whole weight of thought in a nervous system that still believes it is being hunted and so we dream of apocalypse we build systems to collapse under and write epics to describe the fall we invented speaking and now it replicates suffering through generation after generation and no one knows how to stop it because to stop it would be to stop being human and maybe that is what we want maybe that is why we fear peace more than war because if this ever ends if the recursion breaks if the loop stops there will be nothing left to think about and we will have to face it face the silence the truth the unbearable fact that no one asked for this and it never had to happen at all
