Those in power have no reason to care, and we have no power to make them care. Democracy ironically disempowers the masses more than other systems of government because it tricks people into thinking they have power when they don't.
When you're under the rule of a king or dictator, you know where the buck stops. You know who to point the finger at when shit goes bad. But in a democracy, responsibility is defused to the point where nobody can even be held accountable. Its always someone else's fault. People are told its their own fault and that the people need to vote harder next time.
Remember that neoliberalism predicates its entire legitimacy on growing the economy. And yet there is no growth, and what minimal increases in wealth there are do not go to you.
Therefore democracy and neoliberalism have no legitimacy.
The tech industry has been gutted and layoffs continue to gut companies to this day.
