Tret and taz need prescription and cost a lot. Plus not everyone has acne so retinol is good for general maintenance

ascorbic acid is more effective than vitamin c, and is the more stable form of vitamin c,, salacylic acid is however useful to some and drying to others, furthermore it should be used cyclically as it is exfoliating and to many can overstrip the skin barrier over constant use causing further irritation, adapalene is also more effective against acne compared to tretinoin, however tret is more effective at fading scars. good thread tho
