No they didn't. They didn't do a peace, because they knew Germany would come for them after having gathered their strength. Churchill was terrified of Germany after Battle for France. There was no guarantees America would have ever declared war on Germany, if Germany hadn't done it themselves. The American populus didn't want another war in Europe.
