you fail to realize that "nothing happens after death" could also be interpreted as hell, as we know god is everything, he isnt just a "sky daddy" he is everything now and everything after and before, jesus describes hell as something in which him and his love is departed from you, which quite literally means you will be in a world of nothing
this would also make sense as god doesnt punish anyone, a hell like this wouldnt really be much of a traditional punishment
