The Internet has gone crazy for this gadget, there are scalpers who sell now on ebay reservations for the Steam Deck for thousands of dollars.

I dont see who would actually want this tho

Those who want to get into pcs go into them because of the better performance and broader selection of games, this would only have the latter because the performance is comparable to current gen consoles, nevermind the fact that the games are optimized for console performance, and nevermind ON TOP OF THAT that steam OS is linux based so performance takes a hit by emulating .exe programs.

And the games that people want to play on pc are either resourcefully demanding or competitive, and this wouldnt fullfill the competitive side because of 60hz small screen and controller instead of m+kb. Sure, it can be docked to a monitor and you can play valorant (well not until they sort out the whole anti cheat linux stuff, which is a whole issue in it of itself) but this handheld isnt marketed to do such things and you could buy a full desktop pc for the same price and better performance.

Emulation? Current gen phones can handle emulation until like ps3/xbox 360 (theres even a switch emulator for android). Triple A titles? Game streaming on phone by xcloud/stadia, most have good wifi at home + 5g is very close to being the standard so wont be an issue going outdoors.

So the whole "portable pc" arguement doesnt rlly matter, when you can emulate well and play norman triple a titles on ur phone, and desktop pcs for competitive games.

The only market this handheld has is for people who already own powerful pcs, and even in that niche it would be niche because of the reasons i gave above. I hope it does decent at least tho, gaming on linux can possible evolve much faster because of this

You can play pretty much anything on it, and install any operating system, run emulators, etc. there are several similar gadgets but the Steam Deck is much more powerful, has better CPU, GPU, more RAM, and the price is insane for its specs...

Wtf is thid

You can play pretty much anything on it
If you endlessly tweak settings, which the norman doesnt wanna do, and this device is targeted to normans...

Then sure, id rather play cyberpunk on 240p res scale and no textures 30fps on an overheated heavy portable than my pc or even game streamed on my phone
and install any operating system
Normans wont do this
run emulators
Can already do most emulators on modern phones

The $399 option is a dumb option because of the low storage and that its emmc (slow storage). Sure its a great deal compared to other portables, but at $529 (the only practical option) you can get way better performance and more storage from a prebuilt pc. And thats if, most gamers dont already own gaming pcs (im pretty sure they do).

I'm sure you can play Cyberpunk in 720p, the iGPU is new, based on RDNA 2 and uses DDR5, it's better than any integrated graphics right now.
But the point is this portable, man! You can carry it with you and impress the normies when you pull it out and play an PC game on it.

Looks cool but I’m done playing video games quit a month ago

Thats another thing i want to mention, the big appeal of this portable is the "wow" factor not something from a practicality standpoint. Sure, i can impress normies with this, but would they themselves buy it? But despite my pessimism, i just want this thing to do well so that Linux gaming takes off and i can finally fully transfer to desktop linux
