In this movie, based on H. G. Wells' famous novel, humanity has reached it's apex: there's no more wars, food and water is plenty, everyone cooperates with each other, and, except for the Elois attacking at night, nobody needs to fight for their lives.
This utopian society meant two things:
1 - Humans didn't need to use their brains anymore in order to survive, so these future humans (Elois) are pretty much "dumb" compared to modern humans, they have no interest in anything more intelectual, they simply spend their days eating and drinking water.
2 - Since they live in an utopia, there's no need for muscles and anything of the sort, so the Elois look pretty gentle and delicate looking.
