This is true, the Mongols permanently altered the Central Asian demographics. Central Asia used to be populated by Indo-Europeans but they were replaced eventually by Turkic peoples that fought under the Mongols who had dominated them. The Mongol Empire delivered devastating blows to Iranian peoples, literally genociding them. It took centuries before Iranians had their pre-Mongol Empire era population again. That's why Mongols are not viewed favorably by many outside of Mongols themselves ahaha. Russians hate Mongols too and the Soviet Union actively tried stamping out the collective memory of Genghis Khan, basically the founding father of modern-day Mongols.
