The Particulars of a bimax.

I’m wondering about the innner-workings of a bimax

i’ve seen bimax demonstrated as the advancement of the entire are that’s highlighted in green
(maxilla)
(and of course the mandible but forget about that for now)

But I’ve also seen it demonstrated as an advancement of only the area below the red line.

For example, they would break off the area below the red line, and only advance that, in addition to the advancement of the mandible.

In my opinion, if it is in fact the latter, a bimax is not worth it.

I don’t see how an advancement of just the area below the red line could produce aesthetic results.

Do they literally detach the entire maxilla and advance it?

Could someone provide insight on this?


PERSONAL ANECDOTES:

My maxilla is incredibly recessed, so much so that it:
Causes a dorsal hump on my nose,
Causes my nose to be downturned,
Causes naso-labial folds.
Causes my cheekbones to be flat

With a bimax, will these go away failos go away?
I won’t provide photos, but does bimax usually cure these failos?
