We were digging a trench for a sewer pipe, and the slope is supposed to be 3 percent. The trench is 30 m long, so the drop needs to be 90 cm from one end to the other. I had two guys claim and argue it needs to be 10 cm, they say 3 percent slope is 1 cm over 3 m, and when I said they inverted the units, 3 cm over 1 m is 3 percent, they seem vexed that I don't get it. When I told them that that is a 1/3 percent slope, their exasperation reached its peak, and one dude started mocking me saying am I gonna "do the Pythagoreian theorem now", and saying he wants to go home not to listen to me anymore lol.
