I kept hearing about this earlier when my grandfather (who is a total liberal) talked about some gun that is completely made up of plastic + the bullets that come along with it. What a fucking lie that is.

So the question is: can you bring a multi-shot or rifled barrel firearm on-board an aircraft without setting off any alarms? No. But a single-shot smooth bore? Yes. You can take a 12 gauge flare pistol, make a Delrin insert using a lathe to insert a 410 gauge shotgun shell (or smaller cartridge) which would pass airline security, but then the next problem would be the bullets. Plus the gun itself must have no metal parts, if we were to accept the media's narrative about "undetectable guns." For the bullet itself, you would have to substitute it for some kind of ceramic or composite materials.
You can forget about cartridges, and about traditional primers as used in most traditional metal guns. You are probably going to have to figure out something weird as an ignition system. You cannot use electrical, possibly a specialized flintlock, or a weird non-traditional percussion using black powder as in a cap pistol. No cartridges means you will have very few shots, maybe as few as one. Possibly as many as six. Although a plastic cartridge case is doable, the one brand I have heard of has safety issues and reliability issues that I would disapprove of in a steel weapon.

Just look at the Glock 17. This is one of many polymer-framed pistols out on the market right now. Touch it, and you probably won’t feel any metal parts on the gun, unless you tried pretty hard. Just one problem…. the internals? almost completely metal, if not absolutely all metal. Same goes for all commercially manufactured guns, Glock or not. Firearms operate by shooting projectiles with explosive force, you think plastic INTERNALS is gonna cut it? While we’re at it, there are very few if any commercially available ammunition types with no metal parts, so even if you can get a plastic deathtrap with you, ammunition is gonna be pretty damn hard to get with ya.

Strong polymers like what you would need are things like glass reinforced polymers. They can take up to 22,000 psi. Now, the lowest powered round you'd be able to carry would be the 22lr. It's small, cheap, and easy to conceal, but it's still lead, brass, and gunpowder. There's the other problem of your hypothetical gun. It needs rifling in the barrel. Unfortunately, polymers don't take rifling so you'd have to either mold it into the design (good luck) or use metal. You also need springs and a firing pin metal.

The second scenario (which is the most likely scenario) is that you can get plans to print an all-plastic pistol with a 3-D printer. Everything plastic except the firing pin. A metal detector would not detect this pistol. But they are big and bulky and hard to conceal and you still have to insert a metal cartridge to fire it and get THAT past security. So you MIGHT manage to sneak in a bulky, inaccurate pistol that will give you one shot before it blows up. Better option- if you really want to go this route: print your pistol slightly less bulky and bore out the plastic barrel. Create several cartridges that look like (and can pass as) ball point pens. Hand load the top part, which is actually a 2 1/2 inch barrel sleeve, with powder and bullet. Use a firing cap like for blackpowder guns and the ballpoint pushbutton disguises the firing pin. You may now have 2 or 3 rounds that could safely be fired in a pistol made entirely of plastic and you might be able to slip those pens past security. Depending on your obviously nefarious motives you might be able to accomplish the mission.

Also, look at the Liberator. The only modification to it you need is on the firing pin. You put just a very small steel point on it instead of the whole pin out of metal. It would make it past pretty much anything, especially if it was taken apart and hidden in pieces. You would blend in the point with clothing metal buttons on your carry on bag.

Overall, in the whole gun control debate, liberals make many good points, like how many guns seem to just be for killing people by their very design, how it makes killing a lot more expedient and easier, how they're the most commonly used weapon in murders and how so many people die from them each year, and so on, but at the same times they also make many outlandish and stupid claims also (which is to be expected from them). Such as "plastic firearms" in relations to TSA inspection, the whole 'gun-free zone' debacle and the "assault weapon" debate, in particular, defining what an "assault weapon" exactly is (since they seem to think "scary" features and black coloring and high-capacity magazines seem to define them, like Bill Clinton's stupid ass). For the last one, many liberals seem to think that simply limiting magazines to 10 rounds is gonna stop mass shootings. Look no further than Virginia Tech. One of the shooters pistols was 10 rounds (the other 15 rounds). Guess how long it takes to reload a magazine in a pistol? A split fucking second. You wouldn't be able to bash a chair over their head during that short ass span of time without getting shot several times first. Also look at Columbine. It was the worst massacre at a high school in US history until Parkland nearly 20 years later. None of their weapons were assault weapons or high-capacity, even by liberal standards. In fact, Dylan Klebold's shotgun was just a regular side-by-side two shot double-barrel break action shotgun. Joe Biden would be proud.

You can 3d print a gun but it would shoot twice at best.
