Capitalism is a scam and lots of the things you are told about "economics 101" is nonsense. One of the biggest lies is the idea that most are driven mostly by a desire for profit. In reality the profit motive exists but it's very overblown and doesn't matter as much as people think it does. Think about all the situations where people ignore the profit motive in favor or something else. Power. Tribalism. Egoism. Art...
Sure, people want to get paid for doing something they would not want to do otherwise, like boring menial labor for example. But otherwise most people are either motivated by passion or some other motive. Profit is maybe 50% of the reason most people do things. In some cases the profit motive can outright harm quality, such as in the case of art and entertainment where everything has to be low IQ enough as to appeal to as many people as possible.
