The evolutionary reasons are....

1. Greater access to resources
2. More protection physically
3. Via physical protection from that man, or from social alliances
4. More capable of providing for offspring
5. Signal of intelligence, success, reliability
6. Leadership abilities
7. Psychologically predisposed to follow those in authority
8. Perception that they are not easily accessible makes them seem more valuable
9. Dating a high status person can elevate their status in the eyes of others as they are seem worthy of dating a high status person
10. Financial and social security

TLDR: Women are attracted to high status men as they have more resources, can protect them physically, protect socially, more friends, elevate their status, are rare so more valuable, have leadership abilities and realiability usually.
