The Psychology of Leaving these spaces

Leaving, which is the fucking goal, isn't as easy as just logging off. It's similar to homelessness - you can't just "get a job."

First of all, you need to muster the will to do so and have your mental health in check, and there is a level of addiction involved which I cba explaining, so just read this:

Once you've invested years of your life, money, and your identity into a place, leaving starts to feel like throwing all of that away.

If you do decide that you are going to move on, then what?

You're at a loss without a replacement and lacking the right tools. You are stranded alone.

Jobs are inclined, subconsciously and even consciously, not to hire some guy without a house who lives in rags and has a gap in his resume, the same way you don't know how to act. Years of living in one social environment leave you rusty in another. It's not that you can't adapt; it's that you'll be awkward until you do.

Both fell behind and come off as creeps.

Now, even if you get past that, it's still rare that you will leave it all behind because you are adapted to this environment.

You can learn social norms and apply your knowledge here, but you haven't changed enough. This is still your home.

Community becomes identity.

You stop visiting the community; the community becomes the lens through which you interpret everything else.

Much of life is spent among people whose paths differ from your own. Genuine understanding is rare, and loneliness can exist even in company. When you do find people who share your values and stand beside you through life's changes, those are the relationships worth holding onto.

These men do exist IRL, but they are rarer by the day. You'll find men similar to those on online forums, but they are only cheap copies of the ones you actually know.

People online don't care about you. That's why you need to make the effort.

I used to find rotting here enjoyable, now all the threads are mundane everyones unfunny and has a tiktok personality, and i just starting rotting elsewhere, who knows maybe ill pick up a hobby soon, doubt it though
