"Learn to obey before you command"
-Salon
This hits the nail on the head. When people don't actually experience what it's like being under the whip they won't respect it and it's power. Being under the whip teaches you humility by constantly reminding you that you aren't anybody special and that the world won't hesitate treating you like dirt if you are a nobody. After the death of social discipline (and no, it's not possible to have social discipline without corporal punishment. Nobody gives a shit about your "harsh words". Only FEAR of violence keeps people in line) people grew up with the whole concept of fearing authority being not only rejected but outright demonized as evil. The result was the rise of the most narrcistic generation in human history. Millenials (and gen Z) were never taught to respect authority, and as a result they don't respect the authority that they themselves get to wield in adulthood either. They were use to behaving like authoritarians while they were brats, and they keep behaving that way as adults.
They want to command despite never having learned how to obey. Which is why they are the worst generation in history.
