Romance novels are infamously disliked by lots of people. And for good reason. They don't make sense. And the reason they don't make sense is that 'love' isn't actually a thing. When it comes to other elements of social interaction, writers can merely do their research. But with romance, this is basically impossible to do because 'love' is a social construct that bluepill society fabricated. They are literally writing in the dark because they have no idea what 'love' or 'romance' even is.
The end result?
A confusing story with unnatural character behavior because the writer can't figure how people 'fall in love' (because it doesn't actually happen irl).
