Back in our caveman days, a man with large bones was a sign of battles that were won because bigger bones = more force and damage put on them so they regrow larger. Females find this attractive because it shows a man can fight and survive well in the wild.
Basically our ancestors bonemashed unintentionally for thousands of years and for so long it was a sign that a man has fought many battles and won and survived thus producing a biological response to women that the man is high quality.
