I always wondered about this… If nature intended a harem for most species, then why have equal sex ratios to begin with?

Although I don’t really fully agree. I think there’s another reason:
After all, if there only were a few males and they all just so happened to have shitty genes then that would be disadvantageous for the species. It’s better if a lot of them are born because that increases the chance of high quality males coming into the world, so that only the best of the best, cream of the top get to reproduce.
