They should keep offtopic public and everything else private, especially the moneymaking sections.

Most traffic is offtopic, and this is the area with the least extreme dangers. Most content creators that use this forum usually use the most extreme of shitposters from the other sections of the forum. Like when people give idealistic advice on what a person could theoretically do for surgery. Content creators run with this and make "dangers of--" posts as if the people they got their source material from were actually serious or being realistic.

Id say make it private, but keep the requirements low. Like 100 rep. Or just create different levels of forum privilege's starting from 10-1k.

Or they can just not. It really depends if the mods and site owner have serious legal implications to not doing so. If nobody's bothering them, then no real reason to private imo. The real concern is if theres some fbi shit going on.
