Disclaimer: this is somewhat personal and will not make you happy if you genuinely have a shitty life

This is not going to be some high effort, dnrfuel essay, because it is not a complex thing. There are very few variables that, if controlled, can determine whether you are happy or depressed, in the absence of a genuinely shitty life. If you’re really lazy just skim through the bold text.

  • Real, meaningful social interaction. Above all else. You will never be happy if you spend all your time alone. You should be spending most of your time with others, we are incredibly social animals and we go insane in the absence of socialisation. You need to plan regular social outings with friends, family, lovers etc. Text or call multiple different people a day. If you do not have the required social network for this, prioritise building one. Most people are lonely and will be incredibly receptive to your offers if you have basic social skills.

  • Daily wins. You need to achieve something every day. Simple things- cleaning your room, getting some work done, making a friend etc. If you just spend your time consuming you will have horrible self-esteem.

  • Sleep, particularly sleep/wake times. If you wake up at midday and fall asleep at 5am every day you will feel like shit anf that you’ve lost the day already. You want to maximise your time awake during light hours and minimise it during dark hours, listen to your circadian! Make sure to get 7-9 hours. Excessive sleep can also be bad though, an unhealthy coping mechanism.

  • Environment. Make sure you live in a comforting, pleasing environment. It should not be dirty, depressing, suffocating or otherwise displeasing, or it will rub off on your mood.

  • Content consumption. Do not doomscroll, massively reduce your consumption of demoralising blackpill content. Do not listen to sad or angry music. Stop reading the news so much. Listen to happy (but not overstimulating) music. When you consume content, consume stuff that makes you feel good.

  • Minimise time in your room. Go out as much as possible. Go for walks, chill in nature. Go to the gym. Study at the library. Relax in your garden. Your room is where depression lives. You need to have momentum, an object in motion stays in motion. An object that wakes up in its room, stays there all day and then falls asleep there has no momentum. Your room is for sleep, getting ready and maybe chilling and computer usage in moderation.

  • Health, diet, exercise. This stuff is water if you use this site but its important to tackle the physiological causes of depression too. Ensure you have a balanced diet with no deficiencies. Look after your health and exercise regularly, in forms you enjoy.

  • Thinking and mindset. This one is hard if you’re an abused dog but it’s key. Start assuming the best. Try to make your neutral state mildly amused rather than mildly irritated. Hold hope for the future, don’t blackpill too far. Avoid ruminating. Reduce your inhibition.

If you get all of this right then you will not be depressed unless you have a truly depressing life (my condolences) or neurological issues. I have figured this out through my own life. The only struggle is applying it. Knowing what is best is easy, yet for some reason chosing to do it consistently is hard. But I wish you all the best in this endeavour.

TLDR: SOCIALISE, get daily wins, sleep right, have a nice environment, stop consuming demoralisation, go outside, be healthy and develop happier thoughts.

Lost me over here bub
I do really recommend bearing it in mind though, it helps so much

Your room is where doomscrolling, rotting, ruminating and sleeping live. No opportunities or events will find you here. There are no other people there. If you stay there excessively you will miss out on so much :Comfy:

Why does someone put this on every guide I make :fuk:
This is obviously not an AI writing style, people just associate bullet lists with bold text as AI written for some reason
I have a good track record

Find kindred spirits
The further you diverge from the norm the harder it gets, but in a way its more meaningful when you do find it

Tbf AI is trained on good examples so well written content will get these allegations
Genuinely well written prose is flagged as AI because those are the kind of sources it used for prose, same for guide-style content

I guarantee if you truly applied every point I have mentioned for an extensive period, that you would not feel this way

I wrote this guide because I have been frequently depressed. Depression breeds nihiliam which breeds helplessness and a lack of interest in fixing your circumstances which keeps the depression going

Chose life, even if just for a bit, and see what happens

This but with a loving family and a close knit, high-trust community
Most people would not be content with just a dog for company although I do highly recommend pets, especially for lonely people
