I don't know what is harder on the psyche, believing it's your fault or realizing it never began and there is nothing you can do about it. The first keeps you in the state of endless futile struggle and disappointment, and the second one is pure despair. At least I think one can find peace after realizing there is nothing to be done and giving up. Ofc not saying give up, but some people are hopeless cases.
