It's unfortunate that there are not many bald East Asian men... or so it seems, because the movies and media do a good job in hiding it. And so, people don't expect to see bald or balding Asian men.
They get weirded out, they ask if you're sick or something, or they straight out laugh at you... which is sad and damaging.
The chances of getting a date get reduced dramatically. Women won't bother to message you unless you have something remarkable that catches their attention, like expensive clothes, jewelry, etc. They won't accept you.
I was 26 when I first noticed a coin sized balding spot in the crown area of my head. A few years earlier, some of my friends would laugh saying that I'd soon be bald. I thought they were joking.
So, I panicked and tried hair thinning shampoos, Minoxidil products, supplements you name it... I did manage to keep some of the ever diminishing hair, while getting severe allergic reactions sometimes. But it's been a losing battle.
And now entering the 4th decade of my life, I'm thinking on giving up and embracing baldness. I don't want to risk hair transplants and Propecia that can give you terrible side effects like man breast and prostatic cancer.
I was ready to embrace baldness, with now a very visible scalp (I pretty much look bald under the sun) and yet, my family members and friends keep bringing the subject, as if they're talking about a disease that I'm not doing much to cure.
I don't know. I'm super tired at this point after 15 years. Even if I try hair transplants, I'd be perpetuating the image that Asians don't go bald, and not helping others in my situation.
Are you or have you been in the same situation? What are your opinions and suggestions?
