The truth about Accutane/ Isotretinoin

This is a follow on from my other thread

Having getting rid of acne in most cases can be one of the most effective looksmaxes.

Contrary to popular belief acne is not as easy as just changing your diet (for example face iq used Accutane to get rid of his acne not diet contrary to popular belief)

Because of this compounds like Accutane have gained great popularity.
IMG 7530

This thread will reveal if it is some overhyped scam drug or a staple that everyone should use

HISTORY
Isotretinoin was originally studied and patented in 1969 by Roche Laboratories as a possible treatment for skin cancer. Isotretinoin (also known as 13-cis-retinoic acid)

However it proved to be ineffective for that purpose so was set aside.

However they found it proved to be the most effective at treating the ravages of severe nodular acne and cystic acne. And thus changed uses to treating acne.

However in the early days they received numerous lawsuits against the drug were filed. Throughout the 1980s warning efforts escalated as the FDA and other regulatory agencies debated what to do.

Eventually, doctors were issued informed consent forms to be signed by patients and a series of increasingly stringent pregnancy prevention programs were put in place.

APPEAL IN THE PSL-SPACE
The biggest use of accutane is of course fighting off acne.

This is because accutane shrinks pores and reduces oil production (for simplicities sake I’ll talk more about the actual mechanism in the biology section).

This also has the added benefit of shrinking your nose. And being a useful anti aging drug.

In addition accutane doesn’t have many drawbacks, the biggest ones are dry lips and eyes. But that can easily be counter with eye drops and Vaseline and is rare to actually happen

So unlike Minoxidil you don’t need to choose between mogger eyes or jaw but rather acne free skin or having a pizza face

In addition peeling is common the first few weeks/months

Studies show that it also reduces acne scar size and is more effective than accutane (79% of people’s acne scars removed within tretinol vs 64% with Accutane)

Studies also show that tretinol is a very good anti aging tool but efffects are similar to accutane

Studies also show that it also reduces acne scar size as well

Studies also show its a powerful tool for anti-aging and collagen

All in all 20 mg of accutane mogs tretnoin but I’d recommend both, to truly get mogger skin.

Isotretinoin works by reducing grease (sebum) production in the skin by shrinking the sebaceous glands. This is why dry skin is the main side effect.

Grease in the hair follicles causes overgrowth of Cutibacterium acnes bacteria (formerly known as Propionibacterium acnes). This leads to inflammation and acne spots. By dropping grease production by as much as 90%, there is far fewer C. acnes bacteria in the skin and much less inflammation.

Isotretinoin also stops the hair follicle cells from being so sticky. This means it stops hair follicles from getting clogged up by skin cells. Because cells are slightly less sticky, they are also prone to shearing with trauma. Many people will find their skin is more fragile on Isotretinoin for this reason. This is also why waxing and threading must be avoided, as it could pull off the skin as well as hair

Accutane (and tretnoin) makes you photosensitive as the combined effects of reduced oil and thinner skin make your skin much more susceptible to sun damage and burning. So sunscreen is a must.

https://www.brgeneral.org/news-blog/2023/april/common-medications-that-increase-sun-sensitivity#:~:text=Isotretinoin, considered to be the,the risk of severe burns.

CONCLUSION
Combine accutane with a topical retenol for best results. Always use sunscreen with accutane. Always take it when you’re on a cycle. It would work well in anti-aging stack at low doses (10-20 mg)

Pls rep as I put a lot of effort in

Accutane has genuinely saved me from so much acne. It’s insane. I took five months worth of Accutane and I barely get acne now and if I do, they’re so small and they heal very quickly.

Yeah genuinely so underrated lucky most normies are too scared to take it 😂

Been self medicating isotret for 8 months now, going from 30mg--->60mg---->80mg which I have sustained for about 4 months now. Ever since I started 60mg I've gotten bad lower abdominal bloating, but I'd say it was still worth it to save my skin.

Hopefully once I come off isotret my gut comes back to normal and I won't get perma fucked with IBD like Frank Tufano even though he's a carnivore shill will a reason to shit on accutane

AI summary of his video "Accutane Ruined My Life" :

Ever since taking Accutane, the speaker has experienced significant digestive issues, specifically becoming **unable to digest plant foods, carbohydrates, fruits, and vegetables** [1]. Foods like rice and bread are described as "going right through" him [1]. These problems with digestion were one of the factors that led him to discover a ketogenic carnivore diet [1].

He attributes these gastrointestinal problems, along with other health issues, to the drug [2]. He states that without having taken Accutane, he "wouldn't have had to damage my stomach permanently because of it" [2]. The speaker also remembers being able to eat eggs and dairy without issues before, which he now experiences [3].

The sources also mention that there are many online stories of people developing **inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, and food allergies** after taking Accutane [3]. These issues, including the speaker's own allergies and intolerances, are considered "extreme" and a direct result of the drug [2]. He believes that these effects are due to the synthetic vitamin A (isotretinoin) in Accutane, which can cause irregularities in gene regulation, leading to inflammation and tissue damage [4].

Good thread.

I will say that there is high variance between people of the amount of isotretinoin that can be tolerated by the body. The sides can also vary wildly depending on the person. Dry lips and skin are all but guaranteed. Dry eyes, facial redness (easily noticeable falio), rashes, and extreme susceptibility to sunburn are common as well. Avoid taking at high doses (what is “high” depends upon the personal side effects of the patient) unless necessary. Microdosing is almost always a benefit with minimal sides and is one of the easiest softmaxes out there (Just microdose and use moisturizer and sunscreen if you have small breakouts).

I am only able to handle 20mg/day of this drug. 40mg/day almost killed me (metaphorically). I know people who took 80mg/day and had the same sides I did at 40mg/day. Don’t trust your derm prescribing x dose for x months. All that matters is you achieving a cumulative dose of 120-150mg/kg of bodyweight. Err on the side of 150mg/kg of bodyweight. Start at lower dose (20mg) and work your way up if you are able to handle the sides. Avoid going over 80mg unless absolutely necessary.

If you have cystic acne, you need to NUKE that shit with accutane before you scar. Any temporary sides are worth it compared to having facial scarring (this is what I have). Also consider getting cystic acne lasered off by a TRUSTED dermatologist to decrease the risk of scarring before beginning your course of accutane.

Is it common to have dry skin long term after completing a course of accutane. This dry skin is essentially nothing compared to the dry skin experienced while on the drug and can be easily managed via skincare. Night vision can also decrease in effectiveness but this doesn’t matter for 99.99% of people. Hair loss can occur. Not common and is temporary. Growth plates can fuse extremely rarely.

Most dermatologists don’t GAF about you. I recommend doing your own research with this drug before going to the dermatologist. Buying this drug from a trusted online supplier is not really worth the risk unless you’re low inhib or have poor healthcare in your country, typically just visit a derm and negotiate with em to your plan (just say you want to start lower dose, derms often hand out accutane like candy and will agree so they can steal your money).

Accutane is a miracle when used right. I will venture to reason that lower doses are always safe long term, but may have side effects during treatment.

Good luck and don’t be afraid of this medication. People ranting about long term sides are almost always bluepillers who took too high of a dose because they trusted their dermatologist. Only thing that matters is cumulative dose.

Most people acne went permanently away after using Accutane after 4-6 months even after stopping

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2835909/

Studies also show that it also reduces acne scar size as well

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10503936/

However evidence suggests that topical is more effective against acne scars

CONCLUSION
Combine accutane with a topical retenol for best results. Always use sunscreen with accutane. Always take it when you’re on a cycle. It would work well in anti-aging stack at low doses (10-20 mg)

Pls rep as I put a lot of effort in
