It’s genuinely the stupidest fucking law ever, Weed is illegal ajd guess fucking what? Has that stopped ANYONE? NO! This is going to be the EXACT same thing for Tobbaco, people born after 2009 are still going to smoke, but they will just buy from dealers/black markets, causing even more harm than before the ban was put in place.
The law will either be lifted soon or it’s going to be another drug and black market for the government to spend millions of pounds to worry about and not get anywhere, they will HAVE to lift it.
For example, crounties that have legalized Cannabis have seen DECREASED consumption of Cannabis over the past couple of years, making something illegal is going to make people want to use it more.
Like I was born in 2010, I want to start smoking when I’m 16. Do you think this ban will stop me? FUCK NO! I will just buy them from online tobbaco websites where they don’t check ID or simply just find a dealer. This ban is as useless as reporting bullying to a school.
It’s going ti end up like when the US banned Alcohol, people still fucking drinked, that shit didn’t stop them, so the government HAD to legalize it, because there was simply no way of enforcing the law, yoo can’t arrest everyone can you?

So yeah, overall, either people will STILL and START smoking, buying from dealers, etc or they could use their fucking brains and lift the ban, simple as.
TLDR; The UK government recently put a lifetime ban on people born after January 1st, 2008 to EVERY buy cigarettes, this ban will not work at all and they will either have to remove it or people will just continue smoking from illegal sources.
