the 2022 World Cup will take place during winter 2022
the 2026 World Cup and onwards will take place in summer but be expanded to a 48 team tournament with groups of 3. Matches in the group stage will be decided by penalty shootout apparently.
Firstly, wtf is this?
The World Cup is supposed to take place during summer when everyone is relaxing at home with the AC on and drinking cold beer. That’s part and parcel of the aura with the tournament.
But since they moved it to some Arab shithole that’s too hot during summer, they moved it to winter. Screwing over the aura of the tournament, screwing over the fans and most importantly, screwing over the players who will have to play club football right before and right after the tournament. Which surely will fuck with their mind.
As for 2026 and the tournaments after that, the quality will be heavily diluted. Since everyone will be playing for wins, as one loss will doom their knockout stage prospects, everyone will just park the bus. Especially lower quality teams who only qualified due to the tournament being expanded. 4,5,6 or even 7-0 scorelines will just become the norm after a trash team gets an unlucky draw and is put with a world class team like brazil, France, germany or spain.
It’s over ngl. World Cup is ruined. They managed to ruin the BEST tournament in the world. All for some extra cash despite FIFA being a non profit. Just lol. FIFA needs some oversight by another organization ngl. Because they’re corrupt as fuck
